My heart was fluttering in nervousness and then I heard "Will number 212 Sarah Gonna on Cool Cruise please enter the ring."

I saw the arena door slowly creek open in front of me and felt a tight squeeze around my stomach. I walked forward clumsily, looking around at all the staring eyes. What's going on? Why are there so many people staring? What am I going to do?! I was so scared I almost spooked. But then I heard a calm voice from above and I felt a steady hand stroking my neck. I knew then, that I should not be afraid. With my braided mane, my glimmering coat, and Sarah's coal-black hard hat, we were off, cantering to the other end of the arena. She gave a tiny pull on the right rein and I turned. I saw my first jump. Something triggered inside of me and I felt my nervousness returning. I fought it and pushed it back. It wasn't going to be frightening, it was going to be fun! I jumped my first jump perfectly and came around the corner to the next jump.

Suddenly, I had the urge to buck and play and roll and jump, but I restrained myself, because I did not want to see what could happen during this strange new event. I jumped the rest of the course with happiness and fun on either sides of me. I walked out of the arena with a smile on my heart, but felt as though there was more to come. Something amazing came next. I heard words I didn't quite understand. "In eigth place, number 253, Katy Papre on Stranger." A gray horse walked into the arena followed by more words and more horses. "In seventh place, number 198, Chelsea Caple on Summer Wind. In sixth place, number 205, Mike Card on Safari." I felt Sarah get excited, and so I started getting excited and tossed my head around. "In fifth place, number 189, Shon Acorn on Doubletake. In fourth place number 219, Lea Maie on Marmalade Magic." I saw the other horses leaving the arena with big beautiful bird-like objects. I wondered if I was going to get one. "In third place, number 227, Becky Hee on Mare of Turnout. In second place, number 193, Cami Case on Valentine." I thought my heart was going to leap out of my chest.

There was just so much of, of "In first place," my thoughts were interupted, "number 212, Sarah Gonna on Cool Cruise." That's me! I shot into the arena and stared my award, eye to eye, only it didn't have any eyes. I nudged it. It didn't do anything. I asked it to play. It didn't do anything. I was so disappointed.

But then I remembered that I had a great time. I shouldn't be disappointed. I had fun, and that was all that mattered. What do you think?
